Qualified residents who wish to be a candidate for the 2021 vacant City Council Seat may pick up an application at City Hall 2267 N 1500 W or on the City website at www.clintoncity.net. Completed applications must be submitted to the City Manager’s office at City Hall or by email to dcluff@clintoncity.com before 5:00 pm on Tuesday, January 19.
On Jan 21st Applicants will receive notice of the interview schedule to be held on January 26, 2021. Sequence of interviews will be pre-selected at random. Due to the current state of emergency caused by COVID-19, a global pandemic, interviews will be conducted electronically. Applicants and the public will be provided a link and directions for participation.
The Mayor and City Council will hold interviews for qualified applicants during the January 26, 2021 City Council Meeting beginning at 6:00 pm. Following all interviews the Council may vote to appoint a new Council member or table the decision to a special meeting set within the following 48 hours.
For the interview, every applicant will be asked to give a prepared 3-5 minute presentation to the Council. The presentations could include the applicant’s thoughts on: where Clinton is succeeding, what could be improved, issues the City is facing, and ideas on how the applicant would serve our residents. Please call in advance for availability if any media is required. The Council may ask follow up questions prompted by the applicant’s presentation and written application responses.
Because of the short time remaining in this term, if the appointed individual wishes to continue on the City Council past December 2021, he/she will need to file for candidacy in June for the 2021 Municipal Election. The candidate filing period is June 1st – 7th with the Primary Election to be held on August 10, 2021 and the General Election to be held on November 2, 2021.
